Dear Angie:
We have a problem smell that we believe is coming from our heat pump/air conditioner. We installed UV lights, had our ducts fogged and put in a dehumidifier. After all that, the caustic smell is still around. It irritates my throat and my eyes tear up. Still, not all people smell it. The dehumidifier seems to help until it gets very humid outside. When the humidity gauge reaches 57 percent, I notice the smell.
