Whether you're 4 or 40, who wouldn't want to go to a Saturday morning pajama party?

Children's author and emergency room physician's assistant Tolya L. Thompson is 38 years old, and she's been doing it for years. And she thrives on it.

Thompson brought her love of medicine and literacy Saturday to the San Joaquin County Office of Education, where she and the county Family Child Association hosted a book-reading pajama party for children, parents, teachers and child-care providers.

The event was equal parts health education and fun.

Thompson used her latest book, "Wheezing Winona Weatherbee," to help children understand asthma and how to manage it.

She has spent the past 10 years trying to connect children to learning about health-related issues.
