Chelsea resident Erin Lightfoot does not want to leave her modest residence off of Middle Street near the Jiffy plants in the heart of the city. However, an infestation of black mold throughout the home has forced Lightfoot, her husband, Timothy, and their one-year-old daughter Veronica to seek residence elsewhere.
“The mold is climbing up the walls, on our mattresses and on our dressers and we’ve been told there is no possible way to deal with it unless we can come up with the $20,000 to remove it,” Lightfoot said. “We don’t have that type of money lying around.”
Five years ago, the family moved into their home unaware that flood damage from a burst pipe underneath the kitchen sink had been covered up.
