School police have abandoned the Juvenile Assessment Center west of West Palm Beach after an environmental inspector said its mold-infested office walls could endanger their health.

Yet even though the state Department of Juvenile Justice wants to move its 26 employees out of the building, too, it's keeping them working there for at least seven months.

"The mold growth … is a health concern and should be addressed in a timely manner," wrote the school district's environmental manager in a memo obtained Thursday by the Sun Sentinel. He suggested relocating the district's seven employees if repairs were delayed.
