The union representing transit drivers fears mouldy buses are putting the health of drivers and passengers at risk.
Four Grand River Transit buses have been taken out of service after drivers complained repeatedly of musty smells. Tests have found common mould spores in both buses, and also mould growth in one. Tests were underway Thursday on the other two buses.
“Our concern is that it’s like catching a mouse. You catch one and there’s a million of them,” said Rick Lonergan, of the Canadian Auto Workers. “What hazards are we facing here?”
