One the province's largest surgical units is still facing closures more than three weeks after mould was discovered in the hallway leading to its operating rooms.

Half the operating rooms at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Regional Hospital were closed in mid-September after mould was discovered at the entrance to the hospital's surgical suite.

The closure was expected to last about two weeks, but a further mould discovery in a neighbouring room has prolonged renovations.

Senior hospital executives have now written to the provincial Department of Health to stress the urgent need for a new surgical suite, which is part of the hospital's master plan.
