Two of Oshawa's aging social housing buildings need $4 million in repairs to fend off water damage and mould problems, leaving some politicians worried the expense could land the housing back on the chopping block.

A new City report says mould was discovered in the two Owen D. Friend buildings on Normandy Street last fall. It was removed in October and a follow-up investigation in April gave the all-clear.

A consultant hired to investigate the source of the problem concluded that "uncontrolled moisture penetration" is causing structural damage in the buildings, opening the door for more potential mould issues in future.
