Two volunteers with the Mid-Dakota Chapter of the American Red Cross have returned from Tennessee, where they assisted with flood relief efforts.

Roger Hamalainen and Barbara Bethel were sent to Nashville May 14, with Hamalainen returning to Minot May 28 and Bethel returning June 2.

Hamalainen assisted with disaster assessment and traveled from home to home to survey the flood damage. Bethel assisted with client casework and entered clients' information as it became available.

"We were taking care of the basic short-term needs of people like needs for clothing, shoes, food, bedding and a short term place to live. Almost a month after the flood, people are starting to find places to rent," Bethel said.
