BALTIMORE -- Health officials in Maryland are reminding residents to be aware of potential mold and mildew that could crop up due to flooding from the heavy rains.
People across the region are dealing with flooded basements and soggy carpets after Hurricane Irene last week and as the remnants of Lee make their way up the Interstate 95 corridor this week.
Howard County health officials said mold and mildew spores can present themselves after storms and floods. The spores can cause allergic reactions and damage homes and household goods.
