A complaint by a parent prompted an investigation of the indoor air quality at West Florence High School.

District officials hired environmental consultants to do the study after the parent questioned if mold in the school was making her son sick.

Preliminary results from the study came out Tuesday. It found eleven different types of mold, but they were at low concentrations and typical of mold found in schools.

The parent says her son started having health problems when he enrolled at the school two years ago. She says he suffers from chronic headaches and respiratory and sinus problems. She sent an email to the staff a few weeks ago questioning the indoor air quality at West Florence.

The parent says some teachers anonymously responded with complaints they suspected mold was in the building.
