Several weeks ago, an inspection of North 5th Street’s MS 577 led to the discovery of two different types of mold within the school. According to the Department of Education (DOE), the growth was due to water infiltration from leaks in the school’s roof. The leaks have since been halted by ongoing work to seal areas where water can get into the school, said a DOE spokesman.
