I am the parent of a North Haven High School senior. My son has had severe asthma issues while in the school building since mid way through the last school year. This was to the point of him being removed from the school by ambulance on several occasions. Finally, the doctor agreed with us that there was some sort of problem within the school, possibly environmental. Our son was taken out of school and tutored from home. Amazingly, he seemed to become much better while not attending the school. And for the last couple of days of school, he was able to attend for a few hours each day. We as parents, and tax payers as well as our doctor had requested that the school do some environmental testing to determine what the problem might be. Quinnipiac Valley Health was brought in to do a “walk-through” or a visual, if you will. Of course that was the end of the issue. Now, it’s the new school year and we are back to the same issue. Our son has been removed from the school again, and is being tutored at the alternative high school. He is suffering no ill effects while there. Both Mrs. Preneta and Mr. Dalai advised us that they would like for him to try to gradually come back into the school, and maybe stay for lunch and see how he does. On his first attempt at this, he was in the building for 11 minutes and needed a treatment for his breathing. Again, we have requested, and our doctor on numerous occasions has requested that some sort of environmental testing be done.
