School officials will shut down and seal off portable classroom units at the Eleanor G. Hewitt School, following the discovery of mold last month.
Interim Superintendent Rudolph Sellitti said there was no immediate danger to students but that shutting the classrooms was the safest and most cost-effective plan. The Board of Education approved the plan at a special meeting Tuesday.
"[The units] have been deemed unacceptable for students because of the mold," Sellitti said.
The mold was discovered after the district hired an engineering consultant to assess the need for repair at the two classroom trailers, which are connected by a corridor and house a library, a computer classroom and two special education classes.
