It’s been over four months since Oak Ridge Elementary School was closed. During that time, parents and staff have been anxiously awaiting information on exactly what has been making children and school employees sick – some over a period of several years.

Now it appears the school system will not need to wait for a final report from a national health agency outlining what additional work is necessary before the local school can reopen.

Officials with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), who spent several days inspecting and performing tests at the school in July, say they do not anticipate identifying any new areas where remediation is needed. No date has been set for when the final report will be released.

School system officials say they will continue to work with the Turner Building Science and Design to address the original concerns of NIOSH, which included roof leaks, mold and other building and air quality issues.
