Becky Sottos' memory of her mother, Mildred, is still very fresh in her mind.
"We were best friends, we did everything together," she said.
The 79 year-old died just six months ago of what doctors said was pneumonia. At the time, Sottos agreed with doctors. "She would cough until she was blue," she said.
But a recent discovery has her re-thinking her mom's respitory problems.
Last month, the Illinois Department of Health found black mold coating the walls and window sills of MIldred's room at Galesburg Terrace, the nursing home she had lived in for nine years. It's unclear how long the mold had been there, but Sottos believes it worsened her mom's condition.
