NEW BEDFORD — Draft data from indoor air quality tests taken last weekend at New Bedford High School revealed the presence of volatile organic compounds in the air but not at levels requiring any immediate action, a city official said Wednesday.

The levels of volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, found in the air were below state Department of Environmental Protection benchmarks and do not pose an imminent hazard, according to Scott Alfonse, the city's director of environmental stewardship.

The city and its environmental consultants are still reviewing the data and hope to have final results at some point today, said Alfonse.

Once finalized, the data will be submitted to the state Department of Environmental Protection, according to Alfonse.
