A mold infestation due to muggy weather and an HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system failure forced the Special Collections Department to close its doors, which might not re-open until late in the semester or next semester.
It is unknown at this time whether there are mold blooms in other parts of Pickler Memorial Library.
“That is the $60,000 question,” said Steve Wynn, head of technical services and interim co-director of the library. “We have not noticed any mold blooms anywhere else in the library. We are on the lookout for that. And we are in a heightened state of awareness because of what’s going on in Special Collections.”
